This program provides an updated look at nursing home performance in the Hudson Valley region, with a focus on nurse staffing levels, expected staffing needs, and differences in staffing on weekends and holidays. The data show that Hudson Valley nursing homes continue to experience significant staffing shortfalls, with average staffing below the New York State minimum and most facilities failing to provide the staffing levels expected to meet residents’ needs. The program also offers practical guidance on residents’ rights to safe and sufficient staffing, including federal requirements for adequate numbers of qualified nursing staff, staff competency, resident assessment, and individualized care planning. The session further introduces LTCCC’s staffing fact sheets, assessment and care-planning tools, Nursing Home Staffing Resource Center, and additional resources to support residents, families, advocates, and ombudsmen.
