This program explores how legislators, district office staff, and community partners can better support constituents and families navigating the challenges of dementia caregiving. Legislative offices are often contacted during moments of crisis — when families are overwhelmed by behavior changes, safety concerns, caregiver burnout, conflicts about care decisions, or uncertainty about available services and next steps. The session highlights the emotional and practical realities families face and emphasizes the important role legislative offices can play in connecting constituents with trustworthy information, community resources, and support. LTCCC’s free Dementia Care in the Community Toolkit is a collection of practical, accessible resources designed to help families and caregivers manage common dementia-related challenges. Participants learn how fact sheets, care cards, mini-modules, and community resources can support constituent outreach, caregiver education, and community engagement efforts while reinforcing person-centered, compassionate approaches to dementia care.
