July 10, 2026 – Following the recent Supreme Court decision allowing the administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status for thousands of legal immigrants, the long-term care workforce is facing a devastating blow. In New York alone, a vital contingent of dedicated Haitian healthcare workers are at risk of losing their work authorization in the coming weeks.
In response to this crisis, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East is holding a press conference to sound the alarm on the impact of losing these experienced and dedicated caregivers.
While LTCCC is unable to attend in person, we have submitted a written statement to be shared at the event to stand in strong solidarity with healthcare workers and advocates. Our nursing homes are already plagued by widespread, chronic understaffing. Forcing these dedicated professionals out of the workforce will destroy continuity of care, overwhelm remaining staff, and directly lead to poorer quality of care and a heightened risk of preventable harm for vulnerable residents.
